“If you pull the red handle, it will inflate. If it doesn’t inflate enough, blow on the rubber tube.”

A short-haired flight attendant skillfully explains what to do in an emergency. At first glance, it looks like a real person, but it is a virtual human created by a game company. This is a new in-flight safety video produced by Korean Air, and is planned to be introduced sequentially on all routes in the future.

Korean Air released a new in-flight safety video on YouTube on the 4th. In the approximately 5-minute video, flight attendants wearing light blue uniforms explain in detail various safety rules, including how to store carry-on baggage, no smoking on board, and prohibited items from being used during the flight. They also demonstrate how to use an oxygen mask and a life jacket in an emergency. Passengers directly imitate the flight attendants.

These flight attendants and passengers are all virtual humans. The flight attendants are ‘Lina’, a virtual human created by Metaverse Entertainment of Netmarble F&C, a subsidiary of Netmarble, and the passengers are ‘Maeve’, a four-member girl group presented by the same company. It is said that Lina completed safety training at the Korean Air Cabin Training Center and was appointed as an honorary flight attendant.

The space that appears in the video is also a virtual place. Korean Air explained that it is a virtual building named ‘Korean Air Safety Lounge’ with the motif of airplane wings and windows, and that a separate space was designed to easily explain in-flight safety rules.

Korean Air attempted a new concept called virtual human to suit the needs of customers of various ages and cultural backgrounds. The video will be shown sequentially before takeoff on all routes starting today.

A Korean Air official said, “It will be an important example symbolizing the convergence of the aviation industry and information technology (IT),” and added, “With novel ideas, we will change the perception of in-flight safety videos and make them more familiar to passengers.”
