Lina Korsgren won her third Vasaloppet

With 30 km left, Lina Korsgren and Marit Björgen had made the jerk that shook off the other skiers.

Björgen passed Oxberg first and was also five minutes below the record time from 2012.

The Norwegian grounded in her Vasaloppet debut with last year’s winner Korsgren close behind her.

– I felt a tendency to cramp, says Korsgren to SVT.

The pair continued that I had a record time of 4.08.24 from 2012 and had passes that indicated that one might be able to walk for four hours.

Fifteen kilometers from the finish, Björgen and Korsgren were still together, but now they mingled with men who had come in the race.

With twelve kilometers left, Korsgren got a gap that was six seconds and slowly but surely grew.

Eight kilometers from the finish, the lead was 13 seconds, with five kilometers left, the distance was 30 seconds.

– The arms were worn but I am happy with a second place, it was a good debut, says Björgen to SVT.

In the finish, Björgen was 42 seconds behind Korsgren.

– I had control backwards but when there were seven kilometers left I thought I could clap through but I will make it, says Korsgren.

Korsgren broke the previous record when she went in at 3.52.08 and thus succeeded in breaking the dream limit of four hours.

Due to the corona pandemic, the ladies started at 07.40, 20 minutes before the men.

The wind caused the snow to settle in the tracks and much of the skiing went alongside the tracks.

Lina Korsgren took the lead immediately, before the race she said that she did not want to see any company trip.

It did not happen.

In the climbs towards Risberg, Korsgren increased his speed and only Björgen and four other skiers were able to keep up.

Britta Johansson Norgren was never really involved in the urban battle. She lost to the lead and was quickly 30 seconds behind the leading Björgen and then lost more and more in time and went in as seventh.

Jenny Larsson, who won La Diagonela, had a bad day and was three minutes behind the lead when 40 km were driven.

In the end, it was just about Korsgren and Björgen. Third Ida Dahl was almost five minutes behind teammate Lina Korsgren in goal.
