NEW YORK – New York City’s iconic bookstore Drama Book Shop, Known for having movie scripts, plays and scene readings, it reopens in a new location after being about to close due to the pandemic.
The reopening of this iconic place occurred on Tuesday with Mayor Bill de Blasio and the composer of the Hamilton musical, Lin-Manuel Miranda, who together with other partners managed to save the business. The bookstore was founded in 1917 and has been an inspiration point for artists.
During the event, the mayor proclaimed October 26 as the day of this bookstore and recognized Miranda’s work. In addition, he invited New Yorkers to visit the site and support local businesses.
“It started in 1917 and it is still alive. And like everything in New York City, sometimes the location changes, sometimes the appearance changes, but the heart and soul are still there. So, Lin-Manuel Miranda, you and all your colleagues saved something precious. If you love theater, if you love books, if you love New York City, come to Drama Book Shop and experience the greatness of this place, ”said Mayor Bill de Blasio.
During the event, Lin-Manuel highlighted how in one of the locations that the bookstore has had, he wrote parts of his well-known musical In The Heights. He also invited people to visit him.
“Think of the Drama Book Shop as the place to visit, ”said Lin-Manuel.
