Limoux Carnival: Two Months of Celebration in the City Center

More than two months of celebration

Here is uan atypical and emblematic regional custom not to be missed from this Saturday, until mid-March: Like every year, the Limoux Carnival makes its return, with fanfares, or bands, which follow one another and dance every weekend to the rhythm of the music local traditional.

This carnival, faithful to its traditions, takes place mainly In the city center. Every Saturday and Sundaythree times a day (morning from 11 a.m. to noon, afternoon from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., and evening from 10 p.m. to midnight), a more than folkloric atmosphere is created under the medieval arcades of Place de la République. The bands move from bar to bar singing, dancing and throwing confetti.

The three releases have different themes, and the atmospheres evolve throughout the day. The morning one is devoted to a topical subject that has been made fun of. The 5 p.m. one takes place with slower tunes, with a costume chosen by the whole gang, or Pierrot Limouxin. Finally, that in the evening, in the light of “entorches”, torches made from resin, straw shavings and burlap, gives this outing a special atmosphere.

A celebration different from the flower corsos, float parades and cavalcades seen elsewhere in the region. To discover with the family, disguised or not, from January 6 to March 17, 2024as well as Mardi Gras (February 13, 2023) at 11 a.m., 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.
