Bayern Munich stormed back to the top of the table in the first game under their new coach Thomas Tuchel with a show of force. Just under a week after separating from Julian Nagelsmann, the series champion rolled over RB Leipzig’s archrival and upcoming cup opponent, Borussia Dortmund, in a furious top game 4: 2 (3: 0) and is eight games before the end of the season again two points ahead.
No impact on RB
A slapstick own goal by goalkeeper Gregor Kobel (13th), Thomas Müller (18th, 23rd) and Kingsley Coman (50th) ensured the first win under Tuchel – and against his former employer of all things. Emre Can (72′, penalty kick) and Donyell Malen (90′) shortened late. For BVB, who lost a Bundesliga game for the first time this year, a painful series continued. The Black and Yellows have not scored a point in Munich for nine league games – goal difference: 8:37.
The game has no impact on RB and his remaining ambitions this season. Bayern are on ten points, Dortmund on eight. However, two teams will meet in Leipzig on Wednesday, both of which have previously lost heavily. That balances the requirements. Union Berlin is another six points away in third place. The Berliners won against VfB Stuttgart 3-0 (0-0).
SC coach Streich: “Feels like shit!”
More interesting for RB was the outcome of the game between SC Freiburg and Hertha BSC. The sports club was one point ahead of RB before this matchday, after him it’s two, because after Vincenzo Grifo’s 1-0 (51st) the Berliners equalized through Jessic Ngankam 13 minutes before the end. SC coach Christian Streich, faced with a missed opportunity to rush RB to four points, later cursed: “It feels really shitty.”
The first four in the table get tickets for the next participation in the Champions League. To be there is the declared goal of RB Leipzig, who can be lucky that the upcoming opponent Hertha BSC from Breisgau kidnapped a point.
