Cosecha de Galicia, a company that is part of Corporación Hijos de Rivera, is once again launching the barley harvest in A Limia, in collaboration with Sementares and 14 local farmers. The harvest began last Wednesday and is expected to end around August 25. This year, the cultivated surface has tripled, reaching a total of 145 hectares to continue the development of new brewing projects by the company. The harvested barley corresponds to the RGT PLANET variety, highlighted as one of the favorites of Malteros de España for its superior quality, ideal for brewing beer.
This project is carried out in collaboration with Sementares, a seed production company whose main objective is the conservation, selection and improvement of traditional Galician varieties, which also provides variety and fertilization trials for the different cereals tested at CIAM.
According to the promoters, the first results of the harvest are “promising”, exceeding the estimated average. The area thus stands out for its enormous potential for this type of crop, improving the yield obtained in traditionally cereal-growing regions such as Castilla y León or Aragón, particularly affected by the drought.
The harvested barley will be malted throughout the year, adjusting to the production needs of the different Hijos de Rivera beers.
