The arrival of Lime electric scooters in Queens neighborhoods has caused mixed opinions with this new form of transportation.
“Well imagine, if it is difficult right now for us to get parking, now it will be worse with all that motorcycle,” said a neighbor.
“That is good in the way that people use it because it is to commute to work, suddenly to make laps, suddenly to go shopping, they are very good,” said another neighbor.
The electric scooter company ‘Lime’ announced that they plan to increase up to 500 motorcycles in the five boroughs. In Queens alone, neighborhoods like Elmhurst and Astoria will have this access through an app.
Each motorcycle will need to be parked in a street legal space.
Some neighbors, however, have already told us that users do not respect the parking rules.
“They leave it where they want, that is true lying around, parked wherever they want. But unfortunately you know the one who has more money wants more money, that’s the way things are, “added the first neighbor.
Another complaint is that the rules of alternate parking are not respected according to the superintendent of a building in the area. He says he has to constantly move them for the sweeper to pass in front of his building.
“A lot of problem for the days of cleaning regulation, they don’t move them or anything and the street remains dirty,” said Superintendent Fabio Giraldo.
The scooter has a top speed of 28 miles per hour. To rent them you must have a driver’s license and complete a safety exam.
“The idea is very good that the people who rent it have the knowledge to drive a motorcycle and have a clear license because that gives security,” added the second of the neighbors.
Lime’s mission, the company said, is to create an electric vehicle platform to move short distances through an app and that electric scooters are vital to a vehicle’s affordable access.
