The city of Lima, capital of Peru, was named as the venue for the 2027 Pan American Games and Parapan American Games, the Pan American Sports Organization, better known as Panam Sports, announced this Tuesday.
With 28 votes, the capital of Peru was selected to host its second Pan American Games. It had already been the venue in 2019.
In statements to the state channel TVPerú Noticias, the head of the Council of Ministers, Gustavo Adrianzén, celebrated this vote. “We are very committed, we are going to move forward, this is done by a Peru that is united and a Peru that believes in young people,” he said.
“It was achieved!” the Peruvian Government celebrated on social network X. “An opportunity to show the world the greatness of our city and the sporting spirit of our people,” he added.
Lima and Asunción (Paraguay) sought to be the host cities of the great sporting event, replacing Barranquilla (Colombia), which lost the organization recently for not meeting the required conditions.
The decision was made after the secret vote of the 41 members of Panam Sports in the town of Miami, USA, where the delegations of both countries supported their candidacies.

The president of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee (COP), Camilo Pérez, highlighted that his country is “safe, strong, modern and very democratic”, while ensuring that the governments “fulfill their mandates and are firm.”
He even mentioned the case of Peña, who “has his constitutional mandate until August 2028.”
In six years, Peru has had six heads of state. The last to complete the five-year term was Ollanta Humala, from 2011 to 2016.
