Lille – Monaco: 2-0
Jonathan David left on the bench, Yusuf Yazici in his place as starter, LOSC advanced without a formation scorer against the Monegasque runner-up. The Mastiffs still do not have a replacement for their gunner, who has been in poor form this season (2 goals in L1), but they have found a formidable passer. As during his good start against Bratislava (2-1) on Thursday, Edon Zhegrova was decisive, twice, this Sunday.
The Kosovar first found Ivan Cavaleiro at the far post, happy to score from close range (1-0, 32nd). Then he perfectly shifted Bafodé Diakité, rewarded for his long projection (2-0, 36th). Two goals in a handful of minutes cemented Lille’s hold on the match.
The Monegasques only got a start after the break, when Adi Hütter gave up the 3-5-2 he had tried for a 4-4-2. Lucas Chevalier was called upon without really being worried (48th, 64th, 74th, 82nd) and Lille was able to demonstrate their defensive solidity. With this victory, LOSC climbs to fourth place and is two points behind the Monegasques, assured of being third at the end of this day.
Montpellier – Toulouse : 3-0
Hectic off the field, Montpellier’s week was saved by a convincing victory against Toulouse (3-0). While Michel der Zakarian refused to call the match a “derby”, his players showed the intensity required for this type of match. In their style, the Montpellier team asphyxiated their opponent and capitalized on the transitions.
The inevitable tandem Téji Savanier – Akor Adams struck and the first opened the scoring to the second (1-0, 12th). More on their feet against Toulouse perhaps still marked by the slap taken at Liverpool (1-5), Thursday, the Héraultais made the break through Khalid Fayad. The young midfielder (19 years old) followed a deflection from a corner by Kiki Kouyaté to double the lead (62nd, 2-0). Before Akor Adams scored his seventh goal of the season (3-0, 73rd) and confirmed his team’s success. Montpellier climbs into the first part of the ranking, while Toulouse languishes in a dangerous 12th place, 2 points ahead of the first relegated team.
Le Havre – Metz: 0-0
At the final whistle, the Saint-Symphorien stadium whistled its players, tired of a spectacle which never really got going against Le Havre. The two promoted players delivered a sad performance, both giving the impression of being satisfied with this blank score.
The situation could have changed if Arthur Desmas had not made several spectacular saves (27th, 44th), or if Mohamed Bayo had scored when he found himself alone in front of the goal (51st). But the good interventions of Alexandre Oukidja (20th, 82nd) and the cruel lack of intensity of the meeting resulted in a disappointing draw.
Both teams needed points, they only got one back but they still didn’t advance. Messins remain first in relegation, two points behind Le Havre.
