Lille meanwhile paid 19.6 million for the striker’s termination in 2018; values are included in the 2022/23 accounts

Five years later, the case of Rafael Leão’s termination with Sporting continues to be handed over to the sports court, at the TAS, and not even the fact that the Lille has since transferred 19.6 million euros to SAD put a stone on the matter.
In the midst of the legal battle, Sporting’s accounts for 2022/23, published this morning, add a curious fact that, in practice, confirms the actions taken by Sporting to try to receive what it understands to be rightfully its: the lions pawned 533 thousand euros in salaries for the Milan player, a value that adds to the 19.6 M€ disbursed by Lille. In total, 20.3 million euros of revenue enter the SAD coffers through this process, as explained by Frederico Varandas’ administration.
“The value of the player Rafael Leão is related to the fact that Sporting SAD received a payment from LOSC Lille in the amount of 19,670 thousand euros. The transfer was carried out spontaneously by unilateral action by the French club, without any prior agreement with Sporting SAD. Sporting SAD continues, in the competent bodies, to demand from LOSC Lille the payment of compensation in the minimum amount of 45,292,516 euros, within the scope of the unilateral termination of the employment contract of the player Rafael Leão”, begins by mentioning Sporting, in explanations to shareholders, before detailing the situation regarding the seizure of Leão’s salary.
“It should also be noted that to the value of 19,670 thousand euros is added the value of 533 thousand euros that Sporting SAD had already received this economic year from AC Milan, due to the fact that the salary that the Italian club pays to the player Rafael Leão is garnished in favor of Sporting SAD”, informs the green and white club.
