From this Monday, August 14, 2023, and until the 15th, line 1 of the Lille metro (CHU-Eurasanté – 4 Cantons) will be completely closed. Tests will be carried out there to experiment with the doubling of trains, planned by July 2024. Relay buses will be made available to travelers at the usual metro stops.
Throughout the month of August 2023, disruptions will impact the Ilévia transport network, in the metropolis of Lille. This Monday August 14 in particular, traffic on line 1 of the metro (yellow), which serves the CHU-Eurasanté and 4 Cantons terminus, will be completely interrupted until the first train on Wednesday August 16.
The interruption of traffic on line 1 comes within the framework of the tests carried out by the company Alstom, hired to double the metro trains in the Lille metropolis. This file is an old sea serpent for the MEL: initially, Alstom was to have installed these new 52m trains in 2016. The delivery was postponed for the first time in 2019, delaying the entry into service of the new metro, finally scheduled for July 2024 … A few days before the start of the Olympic Games, including the handball events in particular to take place at the Pierre Mauroy stadium.
The tests conducted during this month of August were originally scheduled for last April and May.

The route of some relay buses will however be impacted by deviations :
In both directions of traffic, the Porte des Postes, Wazemmes and Gambetta stops are postponed to Boulevard Victor Hugo. The transport services have set up a pedestrian path to find the new stops. Towards 4 Cantons only: the République Beaux-Arts stop is postponed to rue de Valmy. The Caulier, Fives and Marbrerie stops are not served.
