Lille flea market: the new features of the 2024 special edition – France Bleu

The town hall of Lille revealed this Wednesday morning the new features of the Lille license sale, edition 2024. The main popular event in the capital of Flanders will take place in mid-September this year. “A report that is going to be very special” stressed Jacques Richir, deputy mayor, at a press conference. 5,000 exhibitors are expected (including 500 professional second-hand dealers installed on the front of the esplanade and boulevard de la Liberté) attached 51 kilometers of stalls.

Sell later

The braux are meeting this year from Saturday 14 September, 8am to Sunday 15 September, 6pm.. The city hall and the Northern prefecture agreed on this date due to the implementation of the law in the summer for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris 2024 (from August 28 to September 8 ). So the sale takes place two weeks later than usual.

Same perimeter but more streets to hunt

The margin of the license sale remains the same as in previous years (since the 2016 edition was cancelled, due to the attack in Nice and the strengthening of security measures to avoid any vehicular attack). The stalls will be set up in Old Lille, around the departments République, Rue du Molinel, Jean-Baptiste Lebas, from rue Gambetta to the Wazemmes market. New this year, 8 new streets will see retail outlets set up in the departments of Rihour, Lebas, Vieux-Lille and Wazemmes:

  • Place Mendès-France
  • rue de Saint-Etienne
  • rue du Nouveau Siècle
  • rue Jean Roisin
  • military hospital street
  • rue Auguste Angellier
  • avenue du Peuple Belge (to Pont Neuf)
  • rue Saint Pierre-Saint Paul

Thematic clearance sale

Even though the general idea of the event is to walk around to find THE gem, a “themed license sale” has been established over the years:

  • Children’s license sale : Saturday September 14, Saint Saint-Sauveur station, from 8 am to 7 pm
  • Bike rack : Saturday September 14, Place de la Nouvelle Aventure (sale of used bicycles and bicycle parts)
  • Town of associations and traders (Lille Town Hall)
  • Political parties (around Porte de Paris)

License sale for the Olympics?

No one is proving it yet the idea of selling the Olympic Games is circulating. We know that the organizing committee wants to recycle Olympic products as much as possible to reduce their carbon footprint, so why not sell Paris 2024 stamped signs as souvenirs ? Or unsold official merchandise? The European capital of Lille, which fully subsidized the Olympics in the north, is leading the case but does not want to say more at the moment.

The tradition of mussel stones

It is an image associated with the Lille flea market: heaps of mussels near restaurants where the most popular dish is the traditional mussels and fries! About twenty feet of mussels so it should pick up over the weekend in town. These molds are then collected for recycling. They were transformed into tiles a few years ago but the company responsible for them did not renew the joint.

New food trucks

The city of Lille allows food trucks to be established within the perimeter of the license sale as long as they are far from the restaurants, so that they do not compete with them. “We complement each other wellwants deputy general director of services for the city of Lille, Floriane Gabriels. We make a selection on file to provide the best quality with important names joining us this year: Florent Ladeyn and the world fries champion.”.
