DARMSTADT – What a game! SV Darmstadt 98 managed to break free after three defeats at the start of the season against Ingolstadt. The lilies defeated the Schanzer in a game worth seeing 6: 1. The goals for the home side were scored by Philipp Tietz (29th minute, 45th + 4th), Luca Pfeiffer (39th, 66th), Fabian Schnellhardt (45th + 2) and Braydon Manu (90th + 4).

For the game against FCI, coach Torsten Lieberknecht made three changes in the starting line-up. Patric Pfeiffer moved into central defense for Thomas Isherwood, Fabian Schnellhardt and newcomer Klaus Gjasula replaced Nemanja Celic and Jannik Müller. This was accompanied by a general change. Matthias Bader and captain Fabian Holland were allowed to return to their traditional positions on the outside lanes. And Emir Karic moved into defensive midfield.

The game was less than ten seconds old when the 4506 fans held their breath for the first time at the Böllenfalltor. Patric Pfeiffer stayed on the ground after a header duel. After a short break in treatment, however, the defender continued.

The first good chance of the game was on the account of the lilies. After a nicely played attack, the ball landed on Holland, who had run along from the backcourt, pulled at full speed and made the outside netting wobble. Three minutes later, FCI goalkeeper Fabijan Buntic had to intervene to clear Gjasula’s hard shot for a corner. Even the early stages of the game clearly belonged to SV 98, who put the Ingolstadt team under pressure at an early stage and thus repeatedly found themselves in good switching situations.

This was also the case in the 14th minute when a long ball from Bader found Tietz’s head, which placed on Luca Pfeiffer. His shot just missed the left post.

Philipp Tietz and Luca Pfeiffer put lilies in the front

As a result, the game rippled a little to itself. But the home side always had the scepter in hand, were the team that determined the game and had more possession. And that could be converted into something countable in the 29th minute. A beautiful attack on Benjamin Goller and Bader was completed by Tietz, who rose higher than his opponents and headed to the 1-0 lead. The hit gave the lilies another real boost. Two minutes after the gate they launched the next dangerous attack. Luca Pfeiffer had an eye for Schnellhardt, who took the ball directly and aimed just past the left post from about 16 meters. But it only seemed a matter of time before the Heiner added more. And so it was. Luca Pfeiffer took heart in the 39th minute from 18 meters, pulled and built the play equipment precisely and worth seeing under the bar in the upper right corner of the Ingolstadt goal. One had the feeling as if Pfeifer had packed all the frustration of the last three weeks into this full shot, which resulted in a hit from the Traumtor brand.

SV 98 pulls away to 4-0 before the break

And the Lieberknecht-Elf has not yet had enough. Despite the comfortable lead, she remained vicious in the duels, did not let the Ingolstadt player get away and started another wave of attacks before half-time – which more than paid off. Referee Michael Bacher gave an encore for five minutes in the first half and the lilies knew how to use this time for themselves. In the second minute of stoppage time Goller was knocked off his feet by Thomas Keller. Schnellhardt took the logical free kick from a good twenty meters and was a little lucky that goalkeeper Buntic saw the ball very late and let it slip through his hands into the goal – the 3-0 for Darmstadt. But there were still three minutes left to extend the lead further. And the hosts, who played freely, did not have to be told twice. A teamwork between Bader and Tietz resulted in the 45th + 4. Minute to the already sensational 4-0 for SV 98. Tietz only had to push in from close range. The game was almost decided by the break.

The second half starts turbulent – lilies follow suit

And if you now thought that the game would calm down a little in the second round, you were taught better. Just a few seconds after the restart, the referee pointed to the point in the penalty area in front of Marcel Schschuhe. Gjasula is said to have fouled Dennis Eckert. However, the referee received a tip from the video assistant and looked at the scene on the monitor. The result: no foul, no penalty. And yet it only takes a few moments before the guests from Ingolstadt were able to celebrate their first goal. A long ball sailed over Patric Pfeiffer, who could only look after Stefan Kutschke. The Ingolstadt chipped the ball lightly over shoes to 1: 4 from Ingolstadt’s point of view. A warning for the SV 98 not to let up. He didn’t do that either. On the contrary. In the 66th he restored the four-goal lead. Gjasula sent Luca Pfeiffer with a fine pass in the direction of the goal. The striker prevailed in the running duel against Keller and lifted the ball over Buntic into luck.

Lieberknecht made a double change a quarter of an hour before the final whistle. Braydon Manu and Jannik Müller came in for Luca Pfeiffer and Gjasula. A few minutes before the final whistle, Ensar Arslan and Mathias Honsak came on for Emir Karic and Tietz. Understandably, the lilies took it a little easier in the final phase. There was no longer any danger from the guests from Ingolstadt. And the Darmstadt team took advantage of that a few seconds before the final whistle: Substitute Manu put the crown on the game and made it 6-1 with his goal.
