Lilian Marijnissen Confirmed as SP Party Leader with 94% Member Support | Elections to be Held on November 22

The members of the SP again designated Lilian Marijnissen as party leader on Saturday. At a meeting of the Socialist Party in Amersfoort, 94 percent of the members voted for Marijnissen.

“We are very happy that Lilian wants to be our party leader”, reacts party chairman Jannie Visscher. “The Netherlands needs new, honest politics to rebuild our country and we are proud that Lilian will lead the way in this.”

Marijnissen has been the leader of the Socialist Party (SP) since 2017. She succeeded Emile Roemer that year. The upcoming national elections will be the second for Marijnissen as leader of the SP.

At its first attempt in 2021, the SP fell from fourteen to the nine seats it currently has. The new elections will be held on November 22.

In addition to the party leader, the SP party council also chose a program and candidates committee. The program committee includes former SP MPs Renske Leijten and Ronald van Raak.
