ALBUM. Between drawing, poetry and musical compositions, the artist Lila has just released her latest album entitled Recollection. This mini album includes five songs in English. It has been available since April 30.
The singer-songwriter from Charlesbourg, who now lives in the Saint-Jean-Baptiste district, wanted to create an aerial and soaring folk atmosphere with her musical pieces. The melodies inspire the singer’s embodied sweetness, and the lyrics reveal a more internalized and vulnerable side of her. “The album is a continuation of the one I released in 2018, Quiet as Fire,” says the singer who is continuing her artistic journey with this 3rd career album.
At the pace of his life
The 25-year-old artist, whose real name is Marianne Poirier, has put personal subjects into words that have spiced up her life since her early twenties. “Each song is associated with a moment, a feeling, a very specific past memory that still seems so vivid,” she reveals. This album is nostalgia, sadness, friendship, winter, love, fear, life, death. It’s a bit like the feeling that nothing is coming and yet everything is happening. ” This project was carried out over the past two years, in a period of questioning about his life and his aspirations. “Among other things, I address the issues of jealousy and comparison, like which we sometimes have the impression that everyone always has everything, and that we are missing something,” she continues. We sometimes tend to compare ourselves, but what we have or what we don’t have is often a question of perception. ”
Marianne Poirier has been immersed in art since her childhood. His artist parents took him to contemplate museum walls and various forms of visual art. Singing, violin and figure skating were very important during his childhood. It was only after high school, with the various experiences that life put in her path, that she was able to better define her artistic identity. “There was like a click once an adult,” she adds. The musical program that I followed in CEGEP was a little too technical. I needed to find a freer form of creativity and a deeper emotionality. ”
The Recollection album is available on the Band Camp platform. This spring, fans of the artist will be able to purchase promotional items that she makes herself through this virtual space, including miniature drawings and reusable bags.
