22-year-old Lil Pump (real name Gazie Fabio Garcia) was born in Miami. He turned to music as a teenager, after being expelled from school in the 9th grade for fighting with another student. His tracks ‘Broke My Wrist’, ‘D Rose’ and ‘Elementary’ quickly gained recognition on online streaming sites and the musician’s own bright, edgy, protest persona also attracted huge attention from social media and youth.
Lil Pump reached the zenith of his fame in 2017 after the release of the song “Gucci Gang”.
Since then, he has been considered one of the most popular rappers on SoundCloud.
“SoundCloud” rap or mumble rap (English: mumble rap, from mumble – “mumble”) is a hip-hop microgenre that arose in the early 2010s, characterized by unclear, mumble-like vocals and deviations from the genre’s traditional lyricism. Although the label has been widely criticized as inaccurate and derogatory, many defend it as a new step in the evolution of the genre.
Lil Pump has released three albums so far and collaborated with a number of hip-hop artists – Lil Wayne, Offset, Smokepurpp, Gucci Mane, Lil Yachty, Lil Rich, BlocBoy JB and even Kanye West. Their collaboration ‘I Love It’ has been streamed over 648 million times on Spotify.
After his rapid success, Lil Pump’s current focus is on his health. “I have to take care of myself. If I had all the money in the world, but I was in the hospital, what the hell? There’s nothing you can do!” said the rapper in a recent interview, who has completely given up drugs and is turning from a headstrong teenager into an adult man with even greater ambitions.
