“Go with a skirt to school” day was introduced after a sixth-grader at Castleview Primary School in Edinburgh wanted to show his support for a campaign that has been going on for a while in Spain.
Last year, a male Spanish student was expelled because he wore a skirt at school, according to The Edinburgh News.
Everyone wears skirts
The incident is said to have triggered a nationwide reaction, where both male students and teachers have worn skirts in support of the student.
Now the Scottish primary school Castleview has thrown itself into the protest, and on Thursday this week they arranged a “Go with a skirt to school” day for everyone who wanted to join.
A spokesman for Edinburgh City Council told the newspaper that the city is committed to promoting equality and diversity – and that they are committed to increasing respect, tolerance and understanding – especially in schools.
– We want to make sure that all our schools are inclusive, and Castleview does a lot of positive work to promote gender equality across its cohorts.
– Law with pants underneath
He goes on to say that as part of his work on this, the sixth-graders came across the “Clothes have no gender” campaign which started in Spain last year after a student was expelled for wearing a skirt.
–
– They asked if the school could do something similar to show their support for Spain, and to raise awareness about what they have learned at school.
He states that the school has received positive feedback from the parents, but emphasizes that the students do not have to attend the event if they do not want to.
What is supposed to be the sixth-grade class teacher, “Miss White”, has said the same thing:
– We will certainly not force anyone to go into something they do not want, but we hope that many of you will help spread our important message. Trousers under the skirts are allowed, she writes Twitter.
– Would be humiliated
According to British newspapers, the school is said to have lined up skirts for the children who did not get any from home.
In the third grade at school, the children have been extra creative and made their own skirts. It appears from a message shared on Twitter of what is to be the children’s teacher.
However, on Twitter, not everyone is equally happy with the scheme.

– Should be praised
– If MY son, and I have three, came home and asked if HE could wear his sister’s skirt, or any other skirt, at school, then I would not only ##### him, but also call the men in white coats, say a twitter user by name Caroline.
A mother named Nicola reacts to the comments that have spread in connection with the case, and goes out in defense of the children’s school system.
– My son goes to this school and decided that he would wear a skirt to support the campaign. These children should be praised and not disliked. I do not understand the horrible comments some have made, she writes in one comment field.
