Like before or different? An insight into the production of ‘Laima’s’ oldest candy ‘Serenāde’

One resident of Latvia consumes approximately 5.8 kilograms of chocolate per year, and these amounts also include the production of the popular brand “Laima” in Latvia. Sometimes people say that traditional candies don’t taste like they used to, but is that true or did everything taste different when you were a kid?

“Delfi Bizness” lets you take a look at the process of making the more than 85-year-old “Serenāde” candy, view other production lines and rooms at the “Orkla” production facility in Ādaži, and also explains whether and how the classic “Laima” brand candies have changed since the beginning, as well as, who invented the recipe for the “Serenade” candy and how it came about.

The company’s representatives admit that the total sale of sweets has currently fallen, and new buyer habits are emerging, which are mostly related to the rising prices of raw materials and, accordingly, food products.
