As games continue to grow in size and scale, it’s not uncommon to hear about AAA games that have been in development for five years or more. This seems a far cry from the situation with Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.
AcceptingAutomatonDuring the interview, RGG Studio director Masayoshi Yokoyama revealed how long the game has been in development, and simply put, it’s a surprisingly short time.
Specifically, Yokoyama stated“It took us about half a year to complete it. As for why the timeline is so short, the game was originally planned to be a DLC for Like a Dragon 8, but the team decided to flesh it out and tell the latest chapter of Kiryu Kazuma’s story in its own title.
“We could have told Kiryu’s past in a 30-minute interlude as part of Like a Dragon 8, but we thought it would be more interesting as a standalone game, and that’s how the project came about. Although it meant To make a complete game, but still using the same engine, we thought “it’s not like we have to make it from scratch”.
Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name will launch on PC and consoles on November 8th.
