Slovak hockey player Samuel Kňažko signed his first professional contract.

The eighteen-year-old defender has agreed on an annual contract with the Finnish club TPS Turku, in whose structures he has been working since the age of sixteen. He confirmed the information for the hockeyslovakia.sk portal after Friday’s triumph of the Slovak twenties in preparation for peers from the Czech Republic (5: 2).

“It’s about time. I can publicly admit that I signed it a week ago. I hope to play in the TPS class next year. The Champions League, in which the club should play, is also a big challenge. I will be happy to convince the coaches and win a stable place in the staff, “ he told Hockeyslovakia.sk Kňažko, who was chosen by the Columbus Blue Jackets club in last year’s NHL draft in last year’s NHL draft.

Kňažko grew up playing hockey in his native Trenčín, left for Finland in the 2018/2019 season and at the age of 16 he regularly played for the junior TPS selection. So far, he has represented Slovakia at two U18 World Championships and also at two U20 World Championships. At the last twentieth championship in Edmonton, the captain of the selection was coached by Róbert Petrovický.
