The Angels, undefeated for seven matches, received Marcq-en-Baroeul on Saturday February 19 for the 21st day of the Women’s League A.
All good things come to an end. Undefeated since November 20 and carried by seven consecutive victories in the league, the Béziers Angels have fallen, Saturday evening, in front of their audience at Four-à-Chaux. Opposed to the Louves de Marcq-en-Barœul, barely a few days after their last European meeting of the season in Turkey, the Biterroises, blunt and less inspired than in recent weeks, did not manage to continue.
And yet, it was they who took control at the start of the match. Jostled for a few minutes and even led by six lengths by the unashamed and conquering Marcquoises, Fabien Simondet’s players nevertheless ended up coming back up to their opponent. A reaction rewarded by the first round win, at the end of the suspense and after saving a set point (27-25). Undoubtedly one of the turning points of this beginning of the meeting.
The hardest part seemed done…
Carried in particular by an Alexandra Rochelle in very good shape and still as essential to the collective, by her talent and her experience on the ground, the Béziers Angels immediately took the orders of the second setnever to let them go (25-21).
But while one might have thought that the hardest part was done with this advantage, the Marcquoises showed great strength of character and ended up winning the third set (22-25). A huge blow to the head of the Biterroises, clearly abused and beaten again in the fourth set (20-25). And it’s finally at the tie-break that the difference was going to end up being madewith an identical scenario in the last two rounds (9-15).
Obviously disappointed by the result and the face of this meeting, the Béziers Angels will now embark on a crazy series in the coming weeks. After the many postponements in January, these are not eight matches AF League they will play in just over a month.
Starting with a huge poster, from Tuesday evening, on the Mulhouse floor, the reigning French champion. With a clear objective: relaunch a positive streak as soon as possible.
Defeat 3 sets to 2 tonight at Four à Chaux for our Angels.
A difficult match against a great team from Marcq en Baroeul.
