Leader Toulouse took a five-point lead in Ligue 2 after their 2-0 home win against Dunkirk (19th) on Monday, at the end of the 27th day. With this fifth consecutive victory, the TFC distances its runner-up Paris FC, held in check in Nîmes 1-1 on Saturday. Before the kick-off of this clash of extremes between the first and the penultimate, the two teams appeared united behind a banner “Peace in Ukraine”.

A new masterpiece: as against Grenoble last Monday (2-0), Branco Van den Boomen unlocked the match with a free kick (1-0, 34th). At 25 meters, left side, the Dutchman scored his ninth goal of the season with a superb brushed strike. Until this turning point, the difference in the standings between the two teams had been barely visible, the Dunkirks resisting Toulouse well.
But in the second period, the Northerners saw their chances of picking up the score vanish with the exclusion of Demba Thiam (64th), guilty of an uncontrolled tackle on Rhys Healey. Shorthanded, they conceded a second goal less than ten minutes later. Served by a center from the Dane Mikkel Desler, the Brazilian striker Ratao doubled the lead (2-0, 73rd) bringing his total of goals to 8 this season.
With this new success, Toulouse continues its road to the rise in the elite. After two victories in their last three matches, the dynamic of Dunkirk is logically slowed down. The club remains 19th, two points behind the first non-relegation player Quevilly-Rouen.
