Leader of Ligue 2, Toulouse had the opportunity to widen the gap on their pursuers. But, on the move to Niort this Monday evening (17th day), the Toulouse people stumbled. More for lack of efficiency than anything else, even if the Chamois responded at all levels!
The two teams first had to deal with conditions that were humid to say the least. Waterlogged terrain, at the limit of practicability in some places. A trap for the Toulouse leader in the 9th in the championship? It looked like it. But the Roses first quickly took advantage of their technical ease, investing half of their hosts’ camp. Desler (11th, 12th) could not find the fault. Stumbling first on a very good brat, then not framing his half-volley. At the 22nd, Onaiwu was very close to taking advantage of a too short aerial exit from the Niort goalkeeper, but was not quick enough to resume in the empty goal!
Niort suffered, only rarely managing to launch Merdji Where Sissoko. The Chamois however did not balk at the efforts, putting the necessary intensity to try not to (too) retreat. Ahead, alone Zamzamby far, involved a tricked watchful (29th). In the process, the TFC resumed its real domination. Corn brat shone in front Shooter and Onaiwu (30th). The former Nantes disgusted the best attack of L2. Even luck was involved, with a transverse pulverized by Onaiwu (45th). It was said that the nets would not shake before the break! A small miracle, it is true.
Toulouse punished
A real miracle after the break, when Sissokoat the end of a solitary raid, came to pierce tricked (1-0, 50th). The Chamois opened the scoring to everyone’s surprise. The trap was taking shape for the proteges of Philippe Montanier. And like brat still blocked the way Shooter and to the Toulousains (56th)… The Niortais, far from withdrawing into themselves, were coming out more and more. Confidence helps. Shortly after the hour mark, Zamzam tried his luck with a low shot at the near post. Victorious attempt (2-0, 62nd). The station wagon was in the pocket, while Sissoko could have already converted it (60th).
Toulousestill without solution in the surface, then tried from afar through the intermediary of Ratao (76th). Successful try (2-1). The TFC found hope. Real. The last quarter of an hour became unbreathable, but the TFC was fishing, again and again, in the finish. For his part, René-Gaillard appreciated. He could finally stand up and salute the courageous, self-sacrificing success of his proteges. On his side, Toulouse remains leader, but returns for the first time beaten by a trip this season…
