The Daily Mail calculated how much money clubs in Europe’s top 5 leagues spent on acquiring players during the winter transfer window.

Representatives of the French Ligue 1 unexpectedly became leaders in transfer spending among the top 5 European championships. In total, clubs from France acquired players for £163 million. For the first time since 2019 globally and for the first time since 2011 in Europe, the English Premier League did not top the list.

Transfer costs of the top 5 leagues in Europe:

1. Ligue 1, France – £163 million;

2. Premier League, England – £112 million;

3. Serie A, Italy – £86 million;

4. Bundesliga, Germany – £70 million;

5. La Liga, Spain – £69 million.
