Although Neymar is one of the superstars at PSG, the 28-year-old is still not captain. Coach Thomas Tuchel has now explained his decision.
Coach Thomas Tuchel revealed at a press conference why Neymar is not one of the five captains at Paris Saint-Germain. “I don’t want him to be distracted,” said the 47-year-old, explaining the decision to release his attacker from all managerial duties.
Before the season, Tuchel had appointed Marquinhos as the first captain. Although Neymar has already been under contract with PSG for three years, the 28-year-old is still not one of his representatives. Instead, Presnel Kimpembe, Kylian Mbappe, Keylor Navas and Marco Verratti play this role.
Tuchel on Neymar: “He should keep his freedom”
“Neymar is an artist, he is creative. He should be calm, he should keep his freedom. In order to do that, I don’t want him to think too much about the organization,” said Tuchel, who however stressed the opinion of the Brazilian national team.
“I am always close to him. It is important that he can freely say what he thinks. We talk a lot tactically and personally,” said Tuchel. PSG are the French league leaders on Sunday evening (9 p.m. in LIVE-TICKER) against Olympique Lyon.
