Youcef Atal, 27, may be sentenced to prison.

The Ligue 1 player shared an anti-Semitic tweet on social media.

– I regret that I didn’t watch the video until the end, he said in court on Monday.

It is French RMC Sport that reports that the prosecutor in Nice has requested that the Algerian national team player Youcef Atal be sentenced to a ten-month conditional prison sentence and a fine of SEK 500,000.

The reason is that the 27-year-old, who plays football in the Ligue 1 club Nice, shared a video in which a Palestinian priest made an anti-Semitic statement.

Is remorseful

The player appeared in court on Monday and claims the split was a mistake.

– I shared the video because I thought it was a message of peace and that people are suffering in this time of war. Unfortunately, I regret that I did not see the whole thing to the end, he said in response to the prosecutor’s question, according to RMC Sport.

The 27-year-old defender was arrested by French police in October and banned for seven matches by the club.
