Ligue 1 – Day 31
Chosen to replace Houssem Aouar in the Lyon midfield trio, Bruno Guimaraes delivered a rather ordinary performance. But his start to the second half is encouraging.

The first, that nobody likes, the second, the one that is most expected of him. In the first 45 minutes, the Brazilian played very low on the pitch, a role usually reserved for Thiago Mendes. This position really did not work for him. He regularly stalled to pick up the balls but often had a Lensois on the back (three faults suffered). If his total of seven lost balls is low given his position, it is not the risk-taking that has stifled the Brazil international. The little ball he tried to play while advancing was poorly insured (11th, 17th), which subsequently cooled him down. He favored horizontal or backward passes (85.1% of successful passes), including one to a non-existent Lyonnais (28th). Le Gone was sometimes minimalist in his movements and lacked anticipation to intercept the transmissions of Blood and Gold. On the goal refused to Cheick Doucouré, he is too wait-and-see and does not go out on the Lensois environment, leaving him a wider shooting angle. Despite the northerner pressure, he resisted rather well and won the majority of his duels (6/7). He received a yellow card far too early in the game for a foul on Seko Fofana (7th), in an area that did not require such a commitment.

This environment is absolutely not complementary, Bruno is not comfortable in this position and Mendes does not offer anything to the revival.

Better in the second half
Then Bruno Guimaraes began to write his second part after returning from the locker room. While Mendes had resumed his place in front of the defense, his compatriot moved higher and was more found by his partners. He notably made a good opening on Memphis Depay in the area (47th). A few minutes later, when we thought that the Brazilian had taken his time too much, he slipped a superb ball for Karl Toko Ekambi in the back of the defense (56th). Three key assists in total for the midfielder of the Seleção, who will not have had the opportunity to do more. Replaced in the 59th minute by Maxence Caqueret, he paid for his first disappointing act in the offensive contribution (no shooting, only one dribble attempted). But Bruno Guimaraes’ start to the second half is encouraging for the future and we would almost have liked to see him a few more minutes in order to know if he would maintain his risk-taking. But the return of Houssem Aouar is fast approaching, and the Brazilian has undoubtedly missed his chance against Lens.
