The Rockefeller Center in New York shines again with a very special glow: the metropolis kicks off the Christmas season with the annual ceremony for the world’s most famous Christmas tree.

With the traditional lighting of the more than 50,000 colored lights on the world’s most famous Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center, the metropolis of New York has officially started the festival season.

After the spectacle last year went on stage without an audience due to the corona pandemic, this time the audience was again able to be there in Manhattan – but with capacity limits. Music stars such as Carrie Underwood, Rob Thomas and Norah Jones appeared on the show, which was also televised live, on Wednesday evening (local time).

Most popular New York Christmas tradition

The lighting of the lights on the tree in front of Rockefeller Center, which has been celebrated annually since the early 1930s, is one of the most popular New York Christmas traditions. This year’s tree is a 25 meter high spruce from the state of Maryland. At the top of the tree sits a 400 kilogram star by star designer Daniel Libeskind. Previously, the German artist Michael Hammers was responsible for the star for many years.
