As «oe24» writes, a 53-year-old woman * was struck by lightning on Sunday in Semmering, in the Styrian-Lower Austrian border area – the lightning struck her hiking stick. The woman was hurled about 20 meters over rugged terrain and died on the mountain. The emergency doctor of the rescue helicopter could only determine the death of the woman.

The woman was on the way around 3:30 p.m. near the 1523-meter-high Sonnwendstein in the Styrian-Lower Austrian border area when the lightning struck. The police later found a brand at the top and bottom of the stick.

The victim’s half-sister, who was traveling with her, immediately called the emergency services after the impact – but for the 53-year-old, all help came too late. (bra)
