The recorded storms are leaving significant rainfall, strong winds and hail in some provinces of the eastern peninsula. The instability will continue and will move to the Balearic Islands this Wednesday.

During this Tuesday, a trough has been crossing the Iberian Peninsula from west to east, leaving its ascending flank during this afternoon on the peninsular east. This area of ​​the trough presents a marked divergence of winds at high levels, which facilitates the rise of air masses. On the other hand, on the surface we have a very unstable environment and strong convergence zones created by the remnants of a cold front advancing eastward, meeting the daytime Mediterranean breezes. In short, a great breeding ground for storms.

With this situation the storms have developed rapidly during the afternoon. The first cells affected the north of the province of Alicante with intense showers, among which stands out a storm in Alcoy that has caused damage to a house as a result of the impact of lightning. The powerful shock wave and the thermal contrast caused by the lightning have literally made the chimney explode.

Subsequently, new cells have been developing further north. These have grown in an environment with strong shear, organizing themselves into quite diverse structures.some of them with supercellular characteristics and others in a linear and fast-moving arrangement, such as the bow echo (bow echo) that has left strong gusts of wind and an intense shower when moving through the north of the province of Castellón.

Now the focus of attention is on the next few hours. These storms may develop with great intensity further south and east, affecting other parts of the Valencian Community and also the Balearic Islands during the first hours of this Wednesday. Yellow warnings have already been activated throughout the archipelago.
