A super cell with tons of lightning flashed across Styria on Friday evening. In Graz, lightning apparently struck an overhead line, as the Holding Graz Linien said in the evening: This led to the trams failing completely shortly before 11 p.m. The power supply at Jakominiplatz had collapsed, and tram traffic in Graz had to be stopped completely.
In the Herrengasse, the trams were stuck in a traffic jam and could not continue. Replacement buses have been organized for all lines. The Nightlines ran as planned.
The street lighting was also out: the Opernring and Klosterwiesgasse, for example, are pitch black.
The power supply was restored around 12:20 a.m. and the trams were able to drive into the depot.
