According to the Association of Austrian Lightning Protection Companies, 170,000 lightning strikes fall to the ground in Austria every year. Most recently, more than 3,000 Viennese households were without electricity in July. The increasingly extreme weather also poses new challenges for the average household. Unplugging technical devices was a piece of advice that has long been forgotten, but current developments require a renewed rethink.
