Lightning captain Stemkoss will not return on the pitch this season / Day

The team’s head coach John Cooper announced the bad news on Sunday.

Lightning are in the final with the Dallas Stars in the Stanley Cup final and lead 3-2 after five games.

“In short, he won’t play in the series,” Cooper said. “Hopefully next time we see him on the ice, there will be a Stanley Cup presentation ceremony.”

Both teams will probably play the last NHL game of the season on Monday.

Stemkos was added to the list of injured players on February 25 due to an injury to his lower body. The captain left the field for the first time after a long break in the third duel of the final, where he played less than three minutes, scored a goal and managed to refresh the injury.

The hockey player then released the fourth and fifth game of the series.

“He did everything he could to get back into the line-up, which he managed to do, but it was impossible to go any further. We definitely miss him on the ice, but this series is over for Stemkos,” Cooper added.

Stemkoss excelled in 57 games this season with 29 goals and 37 assists.

Significantly, the attacker participated in the playoffs in a similar manner in 2016, when he had not been on the field for eight weeks due to an injury.

The team captain was also slightly injured before the camp in mid-July, so he only got into full training after Lightning arrived in Toronto to play the playoffs.
