Nevertheless, visitors to Lübbeck’s city center could look forward to a pre-Christmas atmosphere with Christmas lights and around 40 decorated Christmas trees, he emphasizes. If the Corona situation in December allowed, visitors could be sweetened the Advent season in the pedestrian zone with a few stands.
“In the past weeks and months we have weighed up all possible options for holding the Christmas market, from moving it to the marketplace to significantly reducing the number of market stalls. However, the state’s regulations to contain the pandemic, which apply at least until the end of November, now no longer leave any scope for planning and organizing a Christmas market, ”explains Peter Schmüser. “We will now concentrate our efforts on implementing feasible actions regardless of the Corona situation. The hanging of the Christmas lights has been commissioned and there will be Christmas tree decorations by kindergartens and schools. Further measures will be agreed in a working group. ”

This also included the advent calendar readings in a new format. City marketing asked the people of Lübbeck to write their own stories for the Advent season. “This year, the reading is to be recorded as a video in a specially prepared small studio and broadcast over the 24 days via the social media channels of Lübbecke Marketing”, explains Andreas Oelschläger, member of the “Christmas Lübbecke” working group. The children could then receive small presents every day in a different Lübbeck shop.
Peter Schmüser emphasizes that Lübbecke Marketing remains in contact with the local regulatory office because of its activities during the Advent season. Should there be noticeable easing for December, the association would again exchange ideas with the players in the city center about special opening times such as another long shopping evening with atmospheric lighting or a Sunday shopping. “In the same way, it might then be possible to set up a few market stalls at a distance across the pedestrian zone. We can also imagine some spontaneous musical activities in cooperation with our local actors ”, concludes Peter Schmüser.
