My lips were burning in my footsteps
to questions that went nowhere.
I was drifting somewhere inside me
and I couldn’t come to myself.

The stars were falling like bricks –
a huge temple was rising inside me.
The whole sky had collapsed
and I saw that God was not there.

Someone painted the silence
and his breath crept up to the altar.
They shone on the ancient crucifix
instead of nail flowers.
