(Light) corona-like complaints? This is when you need to take action NOW

In the Netherlands at least ten people have been tested positive for the corona virus last week. In which situation (s) should you ring the bell if you suspect that you have become infected yourself?

You can read the latest news about the corona virus in our live blog.

Condition 1: you have (light or heavier) airway complaints.

Such as cough, shortness of breath and pneumonia. This is usually accompanied by a fever.

The RIVM eased this condition on Sunday. Before that time there must have been a fever anyway. That does not necessarily have to be the case anymore, provided that you also meet at least one of the two conditions below:

Condition 2a: you must have been in one of the areas where the corona virus has spread on a large scale in recent weeks.

These areas are:
China
– South Korea
– Iran
– Singapore
– Northern Italy, in particular the provinces of Aosta Valley, Piedmont, Lombardy, Trentino-South Tyrol, Friuli-Julian-Venice, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna and Liguria.

Previously there was a smaller Italian risk area. The whole of northern Italy has been on the list since Sunday.

Or condition 2b: you must have been in contact with someone infected with the virus in the past two weeks.

If you meet condition 1, and also condition 2a or 2b, stay at home. If the symptoms get worse or you doubt, call the doctor. It then determines whether you must undergo a test. In any case, do not go to the doctor on your own, because then you risk infecting other patients if you yourself actually have the virus. If you do not have a doctor, call the local GGD.

The COVID-19 virus (coronavirus) in short

  • The virus spreads mainly through cough and sneeze drops that hang in the air for a short time. Anyone who shows no symptoms is hardly a risk of infection.
  • Someone can infect two to three others on average (less than, for example, measles). However, this figure is falling due to all precautions.
  • The vast majority have mild (flu-like) symptoms.
  • Almost all deaths concern older or already sick people.
