Light and art! Work by James Turrell presented at Tec de Monterrey

Skyspace: Spirit of Light was presented this February 22 in Flowering Square of the Monterrey campus before the authorities of the institution, the government of Monterrey and the community in general.

The piece is located in the Plaza Floramiento of the Central Park. It was created in order to pay homage to the life and work of Don Eugenio Garza Sada and Eugenio Garza Laguera.

The work was spearheaded by DistritoTecthe Tecnológico de Monterrey Arts Initiative and the AC Art Laboratory.

During the presentation ceremony, David Garzarector and executive president of the Tec, indicated that the new artistic work is a symbol of humanism and sensitivity that mixes science with art.

“This makes me think of a concept that we have been discussing at the Tec: the Tec is associated as a high tech institution, but the Tec is also a high touch institution.

‘Ilumina’ Turrell al Tec

During two times of the dayone in the morning and one in the afternoon, “Skyspace: Spirit of Light” seeks to offer a optical experience to the spectators in which the light and space.

Skyspace: Spirit of Light, installed on the Monterrey campus, is the first work of its kind in Nuevo León and the third in Mexico. One piece is located in the Sinaloa Botanical Garden and another in the Tree of Light Amphitheater on Yucatan.
