The Xolos de Tijuana suffered on the border against a complicated Santos Laguna team (3-1), however, they managed to come back thanks to goals from Efraín Álvarez, Raúl Zuñiga and Jaime Álvarez. For their part, the Laguneros opened the scoring thanks to a goal from Anthony Lozano.
Santos struck first
Both Xolos and Guerreros had a very active first 45 minutes on the border. After the locals could have opened the scoring with a penalty disallowed for Raúl Zuñiga, it was Ignacio Ambriz’s team who ended up breaking the net first.
In the 14th minute, Santos went forward to beat Jesús Corona’s goal. After a run down the left flank, Argentine striker Ramiro Sordo ended up assisting Anthony Lozano, who beat the rival goal with a powerful header.
Xolos’ reaction
However, Club Tijuana managed to tie the score in the 28th minute, courtesy of a brilliant play by Mexican striker Efraín Álvarez. After a pass from Unai Bilbao, Álvarez showed off with an outstanding dribble and sent the ball into the net with a cross shot.
Moments before the break, Pantera Zuñiga increased the lead for Xolaje. After a childish error by the Santos Laguna defence, the Colombian striker struck Carlos Acevedo’s goal with a quick shot.
The match ended up becoming even more complicated for the Warriors with the expulsion of Argentine defender Santiago Núñez. The Argentine defender made a strong tackle on Christian Rivera and received the red card, leaving Nacho Ambriz’s team with 10 men.
During added time in the second half, Jaime Álvarez ended up scoring the final 3-1. It is worth noting that the young Mexican made his debut in the First Division during this match against Santos.
Santos still without a win
With the recent defeat, Club Santos Laguna has gone five games without knowing victory in the Apertura 2024 tournament. Therefore, a crisis of results is beginning to emerge in the Comarca Lagunera.
