SCHWALMSTADT-ZIEGENHAIN. Saving lives with blood donations and at the same time gaining the chance for special experiences – the German Red Cross (DRK) is launching a campaign under the motto “We celebrate life” in which blood donors have the opportunity to win adventure weekends or cinema tickets.
During the promotional period from September 30th to November 29th, 2024, the DRK is giving away ten adventure weekends for two people in the Tripsdrill adventure park or in the Sinsheim/Speyer Technology Museum as well as 500x two Cineplex cinema tickets.
Blood donations are very important, as around 15,000 donations are needed every day in Germany. Due to the limited shelf life of blood supplies, every donation is valuable. However, demographic change poses challenges for blood donation services: The “baby boomer” generation, which currently acts as an important support group, will itself be increasingly dependent on blood donations in the future. The DRK blood donation service therefore appeals to young people to support blood donation and donate regularly. “It is never too late to donate blood for the first time,” emphasizes Martin Oesterer, press spokesman for the DRK blood donation service Baden-Württemberg – Hesse.
The blood donation process is simple and well organized: those interested reserve their desired date online, drink plenty of non-alcoholic liquid (2-3 liters) on the day of the donation, and bring their ID card with them to register. After filling out a medical questionnaire and a short medical examination, blood donation follows, which takes about 5-10 minutes. Afterwards, the donors can fortify themselves with snacks and rest.
The next blood donation appointment in the region will take place on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Kulturhalle, Steinweg, 34613 Schwalmstadt / Ziegenhain. All dates and information about registration are below www.blutspende.de/termine or available on the free hotline 0800 11 949 11. (whale)
