There is a good chance that you want to take a nice dip in the pool or the sea when you are on vacation. But what if not only you, but also your phone ends up in the water? With these tips you immediately know what to do and what not to do.
By: Erik NusselderRest assured, many phones these days are waterproof. Every smartphone has received a certificate for this, such as IP67 or IP68.

The first number indicates how well the device can withstand dust, the second number refers to water resistance. With a 7, your phone can be kept under water for a while, an 8 is virtually waterproof. By the way, prolonged swimming with your phone is still not recommended, because water is not good for electrical devices at all. And the salt from the sea or chlorine from a swimming pool is still harmful.

Dismantle your phone
The first thing to do is get your device out of the water as soon as possible. Then turn it off completely. What you should not do is restart your phone too quickly. The electricity can cause a short circuit and damage the essential parts. Let him rest for a full day, preferably 48 hours.

Then open your phone and take out everything: the battery, SIM card and SD card. Now it is important to get the moisture out of your device. Start with a tea towel or absorbent kitchen or toilet paper and pat everything dry.

After that, your smartphone should dry out. Grab a kickstand, place the phone with the charging port down and put some toilet paper underneath to catch the water. A little airflow is good to get the moisture out, so a small fan can help.

Forget rice
Some people say you should put your phone in a tub of rice, but that seems more like a myth. Rice can absorb water quite well, but the moisture is on the inside of your phone and it doesn’t just pull out. Moreover, leftover wet grain of rice can damage your phone even further.

It may sound logical to dry your phone in the sun or on a heater, but that is not wise either. Prolonged exposure to so much heat can cause parts to overheat.
