Nutrition and functional food healthcare Life & Bio announced the development of new raw materials for the first time in a year. The raw material developed this time is ‘Orginic D3’, an organic vitamin D3 oil raw material that considers both absorption rate and safety, and it has been two years since development began in 2021. It was developed as the first organic vitamin D3 oil raw material.
Vitamin D is an essential nutrient that is closely related to various physiological activities and diseases of our body. If it is deficient, it can affect vitamin D, dyslipidemia, inflammation, immunity, high blood pressure, fatty liver, etc. The reason for lack of vitamin D is indoor lifestyle habits. , use of sunscreen, lack of intake of foods containing vitamin D, age, disease, environmental pollution, etc., and it has been continuously revealed that modern people are especially seriously lacking in vitamin D. The number of patients receiving treatment for vitamin D deficiency from 2017 to 2021, announced by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, increased rapidly from about 86,000 over five years to about 24 in 2021. In terms of gender, women were 3.5 times more underrepresented than men.
Life & Bio developed vitamin D raw materials to address this vitamin D nutrient deficiency. The main characteristics of the newly developed vitamin D raw material ‘Organic D3’ are that firstly, it is D3 rather than D2, secondly, it uses organic raw materials rather than synthetic vitamins, and lastly, it is an oil type rather than a powder. am. All of these were developed considering the absorption rate and stability of vitamin D3.
In terms of absorption rate, D3 has a higher body utilization rate than D2. As a result of a human application test comparing vitamin D2 and D3 published in CLINICAL NUTRITION, a SCI-level academic journal, in 2008, it was confirmed that D3 increases blood vitamin D concentration by more than two times compared to D2. In addition, the fact that vitamin D has a better absorption rate when consumed in oil type rather than tablet type was also known through a paper published in the BRITISH JOURNAL OF NUTRION, an international SCI-grade nutritional clinical journal. This is because vitamin D is fat-soluble. Rather than synthetic types of vitamin D, it was developed to be safe and as close to nature as possible by using natural forms and certified organic raw materials.
An official from Life & Bio said, “There are many vitamin D products on the market, but there is currently no organic, oil-type vitamin D3. We developed it after dozens of attempts over two years of collaboration with various raw material manufacturers with technical capabilities. It has a high absorption rate not only for adults but also for adults. “We will be able to diversify into vitamin D products for pregnant women and infant vitamin D products using vitamin D3 raw materials with improved safety. We have already started supplying vitamin D capsule products and infant vitamin D drop products to several brands,” he said.
A year ago, Life & Bio launched Olomega 3 Baby, a brain development ingredient containing DHA and ALA, which are necessary for brain growth in infants and young children. We developed a new raw material in just one year, and before the end of this year, we plan to release Olomega 3 Baby Smart, which is supplemented with lecithin, phosphatidylserine, and phosphatidylcholine, which are brain components.
