The idea came from a bitter life experience when one of the relatives of the boot’s inventor had his toes blown off by a land mine. Currently, the company employs more than 150 workers and has produced a total of more than 300 pairs of these special boots.
The idea was borrowed from Canada, where similar anti-mine shoes had already been produced. In Ukraine, they are made from a special plastic that does not break into small fragments in the event of an explosion, but turns into dust and thus does not require amputation.
The bottom frame of the boots is made using a 3D printer. The shoes have been ordered not only by the Ukrainian army, but also by countless local residents, as the Kharkiv region is full of various mines that are practically impossible to spot.
CONTEXT:
During the Russian aggression, the number of Ukrainians who lost one or more limbs reached 20,000 to 50,000, and these numbers are comparable to the First World War, LETA agency reported, referring to the American newspaper “Wall Street Journal”. The true number of people who have lost limbs could be higher, because prosthetics take time. Landmines also cause a large proportion of these injuries.
On February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops. Putin claimed that NATO was going to use Ukraine as a springboard for aggression against Russia, although there was no evidence for these claims. Ukraine believes that Putin’s real goal is to destroy Ukraine’s statehood and bring the territory under Moscow’s control.
