Life lesson from terminally ill poet Stijn De Paepe: “Don’t look for “It” too far, but look where it is”

At the end of last year, Stijn De Paepe announced – also with a poem – that he was suffering from an incurable cancer. Friedl’ Lesage interviewed him for “Touché” on Radio 1 from a distance, because De Paepe is almost confined to home.

“I’m not doing well,” he admits. He fails to eat properly and tries to assuage the pain with morphine. “Time has become very precious. I want to have as much control over it as possible, to experience the time as much as possible with the people I like most: my children, my wife, family, good friends. Don’t let yourself be guided too much by things I don’t feel like.”
