Alex has a special gift. She can read people’s moods and thoughts and influence them.
True Colors takes us to the mountains of Colorado. Specifically to the small town idyll Haven. It is a very small town that is barely visible on the map. The protagonist, the young woman Alex, moves here. She has just gotten in touch with her big brother Gabe after living in harsh conditions in a foster home for many years. The brother is injured, however, and here begins a mystery that you must unravel.
The main characters in the Life is Strange series have had various special features that made them extraordinary people. Max was able to turn back the clock. Daniel had telekinetic abilities.
Now that a new part – True Colors – in the series is here and of course the main character has a quality that stands out. Alex can read people’s feelings in depth and also what they think. Is he scared and what’s going on in his head? Angry? To you as a player, it seems like a colored aura around the character.
What would be the knowledge about people’s state of mind and thoughts for something if they were not impressionable? This is where Alex’s great strength comes in. For example, she can calm an angry person and maybe even get him to talk about something he would not talk about when he was angry. Here I think the developers could have developed the concept more. It could have been a more fun way to change people’s moods. The right mood does not really want to appear. Now you may be wondering how to do that, but I will not tell you, but you will find out for yourself if you buy the game.
The sea is a small idyll inhabited by nice people. Here, as I said, you will solve the mystery of Gabe’s death. In addition, you can get to know the residents a little more by performing various side missions that are voluntary. However, they are recommended because they complete the game.
That Haven is a small town is quickly noticeable. When you walk down the main street, there are only a few shops and stumps of alleys left. In addition, there are some side places such as a mine. Overall, however, this is poor. I quickly got tired of running back and forth in the city in search of new people and other things.
Previous games can be compared to interactive movies. This also applies to True Colors. In True Colors, it is you who makes different choices and moves the action forward. When you talk to other characters, you get alternate lines. Some of these are used specifically for the action of the game. Depending on the choices you make, the game gets a slightly different plot and different ending.
True Colors, however, is a rather dull “movie”. The pace is slow and Alex’s ability is in theory very interesting but not well done to make me excited. It’s all right, but not much more than that.
This third game in the Life is Strange series is just like previous games nicely done, albeit with quite plastic, but lovely characters. Environment feels very natural. The voices are well done and the story is nicely told, albeit tough. Regarding the story, I think the previous game was stronger.
True Colors is divided into several chapters. In the previous game, the game was also divided into different parts that were downloaded separately. In True Colors, they have chosen to release the entire game at once. This means that you can not decide if you want to buy the entire game or drop out if you do not like the game’s introduction.
Do not expect violent and intense shooting in Life is Strange: True Colors. It’s a quiet game that pushes forward at a calm (too tough in my opinion) pace. The focus has been on the experience and problem solving.
