Life is Strange: Double Exposure was a clear example of Denuvo’s inability to improve game sales

Recently released Life is Strange: Double Exposure from the studio Deck Nine and publishing houses Square Enix.

The game was a clear demonstration that the defense Denuvo it has almost no positive effect on project sales. The previous game in the franchise, Life Is Strange: True Colors were released without Denuvo protection (the developers uploaded an unprotected EXE file of the game) and appeared online on the day of release. Meanwhile, Life is Strange: Double Exposure, in turn, is protected by Denuvo protection.

Judging by SteamDBboth projects showed almost identical online figures upon release: Life is Strange: True Colors had 8 thousand people, and Life is Strange: Double Exposure had 8.5 thousand people. However, it must be noted that Double Exposure featured the long-awaited return of Max Caulfield, which in turn could attract the attention of many fans of the franchise.

As you can see, both games were able to attract an almost equal number of players. Not even the famous 20%, previously reported in the survey:

Study: Denuvo’s lack of games at launch costs publishers up to 20% of revenue

In recent years, Square Enix has consistently removed Denuvo protection from its games 6-12 months after release. Therefore, those who want to “experience” the game for free can only wait for the right moment.
