Sri Chinmoy
93 years ago on August 27 in Shakpura, India gives birth the spiritual master with genius Sri Chinmoy.
He is the youngest of all seven children in the family of Yogamaya and Shashi Kumar Ghosh.
At the age of 12, he became an orphan and entered the ashram of Sri Aurobindo (“sri” means “holy, saint”), where he was trained in spirituality, meditation, arts and sports.
Before he turned 33, in April 1964, Sri Chinmoy left for the United States and soon after established an ashram in New York.
Today, almost 17 years after his death, thousands of his disciples scattered across all continents continue to follow the Way of the Heart, as Sri Chinmoy calls his spiritual path, and spread his messages of peace and self-transcendence.
Sri Chinmoy leaves behind an extremely valuable legacy of books steeped in profound wisdom, insights and guidance. He wrote about 13 thousand songs, left millions of drawings with birds and colors of harmony. He gives hundreds of concerts around the world, in which he performs his own compositions on dozens of musical instruments. Leads meditations in the UN building. Conversations with the most influential figures of the 20th century – Pope John Paul II, Mother Teresa, Mikhail Gorbachev, Princess Diana, Nelson Mandela, Al Gore and many others. He founded the World Peace Run in 1987, which in 2018 started from Sofia.
In 1977, the spiritual teacher and mystic founded the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team with distances from 21 to 5000 km. In Plovdiv every year since 2004, a marathon and a half-marathon has been organized on the Olympic Ridge Canal, in which hundreds of runners from Bulgaria and other countries participate. In New York are the “Sebenadminavane” ultramarathons with the longest distance of nearly 5,000 km, which last for two months. Bulgarians Todor Dimitrov – El Capitan, who is a teacher at the Military Academy in Sofia, and Tsvetan Tsekov – Shopan also participated in the longest destination.
Sri Chinmoy believes that self-transcendence is a spiritual goal. “If we live in the heart, the impossible does not exist,” he says. And more: “Our goal is to go from light to brighter and brighter, from higher to higher and highest. And even in the highest our progress does not stop, because God Himself is in each of us, and God is every moment surpassing His own Reality.” says the guru.
