AFPAbdeslam at court in 2016

The Belgian Public Prosecution Service has demanded life imprisonment against the French terrorist Salah Abdeslam. A jury ruled earlier this summer that he was guilty, and the OM has now formulated a demand.
The case concerns the suicide attacks at Brussels airport Zaventem and metro station Maalbeek in 2016. They claimed the lives of 35 people. Abdeslam has been found guilty of terrorist murder and participation in a terrorist group.
The terrorist acts in Belgium followed four months after the attacks in Paris on November 13, 2015, which killed 130 people. IS terrorists attacked the Stade de France football stadium, then discharged their weapons at cafe terraces and then caused a massacre in the Bataclan concert hall.
Any living perpetrator
Abdeslam is the only one of the ten perpetrators in Paris who is still alive. The others blew themselves up or were shot by the police. Abdeslam would also blow himself up in Paris, but ultimately did not, according to himself “out of humanity”. But according to justice, his bomb vest was defective.
After Paris he left for Brussels. There he was already arrested four days before the attacks on Zaventem and Maalbeek in the Molenbeek district of Brussels. So he was imprisoned when they were committed. Yet he was held responsible by the jury for planning and preparing the attacks.
Salah Abdeslam has already been sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for the Paris attacks. He is serving his sentence in France, but wants to be transferred to a Belgian prison because he says he is being “psychologically tortured” in France.
