“Life has other plans”

In the last few hours, the name of Mariana Rodríguez, the first lady of Nuevo León, has captured attention on social media after publishing a video on her Instagram account last Wednesday, July 31.

In this clip, Rodríguez, who is also an influencer, documented two significant moments: the news of her pregnancy and her subsequent stay in the hospital due to the loss of her baby.

Although the former candidate for mayor of Monterrey showed how she said goodbye to her son and shared some images of his home tests, ultrasounds and later an image in a hospital bed, with catheterization and tears, she did not give more details.

After receiving numerous messages of support, this Thursday, August 1, Mariana Rodríguez, head of the Amar a Nuevo León program, expressed her gratitude for the displays of solidarity she has received, so through a story on her Instagram account, she mentioned that, for her, remaining silent is not an option, given that the loss of a baby is usually an invisible and silent experience.

“I am a firm believer that when we begin to raise awareness and talk a little more about what a pregnancy loss is, then women, and obviously as couples, men too, can feel much more supported in this process,” she said.

She added that these days have been emotionally complex. Sometimes she feels fine, while other times she is overcome with tears. She also pointed out that her discomfort is not limited to the emotional aspect, but that she also experiences physical difficulties due to the abrupt hormonal change after the loss, since the sudden disappearance of pregnancy hormones has had a considerable impact on her physical well-being.

“I had an aspiration on Monday (…) this pregnancy came as a surprise, quite naturally, I thought it was like my reward after how things had turned out after Mariel,” she said.

These last words were mentioned given that in May 2020, Rodríguez and her husband, Samuel García, announced through their social networks the loss of their first baby.

“Life has other plans, God has other plans, and even though I know I don’t understand them right now, I have to trust that one day I will understand them. Something is coming, maybe,” she said.

In addition, she said she experienced a feeling of joy, fueled by the plans she dreamed of making, and stated that the news of her pregnancy was confirmed in part by the behavior of her daughter Mariel, who noticed the change in her mother.

She also said the decision to post her video on Wednesday came after a conversation she had with a friend, as Rodriguez was unsure when or how to do it, but felt the need to share it.

“Yesterday I made the decision to publish it. I didn’t know when I was going to publish it. I did know that I wanted to comment on it, because a friend, who I know didn’t do it with any bad intentions, said to me, ‘Oh, when is the second one coming?’ and I turned to her and said, ‘Two days ago I had a miscarriage.’ I prefer that they know and have the knowledge, because we can’t expect people to guess, nor that their comments are made with bad intentions,” she concluded.
