In the Nias Islands, ten children lost their smiles because they were born with cleft lips. Not only do they look different from other children, but their lives are increasingly difficult because the gap between their lips makes it difficult for them to eat and communicate. Every parent never expects their children to be born with this kind of condition. Even though there is a desire to change their children’s lives through surgery, economic limitations are still a big obstacle.
Grateful that the light of hope came through the kindness of the Indonesian Obor Berkat Foundation (OBI) through the Life Changing Surgery (LCS) program, which provided free cleft lip surgery for these ten children. This operation was carried out successfully on Friday, March 1 2024, at RSUD dr. M. Thomsen, Nias Islands. This is a moment that brings big changes to their lives.

This great opportunity provided by OBI really blesses every family. This was conveyed by Mrs. Fitri Santi, mother of Jovanka Darel (9 months). “Since there was news of this assistance for cleft surgery, I have been happy. This is our only wish as parents. Because if I take Jovanka everywhere, sometimes I get teased, that’s where my heart is sad. But thank God this program is here to help my one child the only Jovanka.”
Weriani, mother of Aswin Berlian (3 months), who also received free cleft lip surgery, also expressed her gratitude to the donors who had helped their little daughter amidst the economic limitations they faced.
“We have been trying to save for our child’s surgery costs even though our income is not sufficient. But we are happy and grateful because we have a solution to operate on our child’s cleft lip for free. I thank OBI and the donors who have helped us to operate on our child Aswin for free, there is no reply from us, hopefully God Almighty will reply,” he said.
Currently, the ten children are in the process of recovery. Let’s continue to support them in your prayers so that their condition recovers quickly and they are ready to live life with smiles and laughter.
Thank you because these children got their smiles back thanks to you. The Indonesian Torch of Blessing will continue to continue this kindness to thousands of children in need. Come support us to make it happen.
