Life at Sea Cruises: The Scandal of the Cancelled World Cruise

Nov 25, 2023 at 9:23 AM Update: 38 minutes ago

A cruise that was supposed to circumnavigate the world in three years has been canceled. The company, Life at Sea Cruises, admitted less than two weeks before departure that it does not have a ship.

Many had signed up for the experience of a lifetime: traveling the world for three years on a huge cruise ship. They paid hundreds of thousands of euros to leave Amsterdam on November 30.

But that dream shattered on November 17, when Life at Sea Cruises admitted after weeks of silence that it does not have a ship. According to CNN the organization was unable to complete the purchase of the cruise ship (worth the equivalent of 36 to 46 million euros).

The trip was originally scheduled to start in Istanbul on November 1, but the departure was moved twice.

Although the organization promises to reimburse passengers in installments in a few months, many have a major problem. In the run-up to the cruise, they sold or rented their house and gave up their belongings. So they can’t go anywhere.

Life at Sea Cruises is also willing to pay for accommodation until December 1 for people who have already left their home. The organization also offers to pay for the tickets for the trip home, but many no longer have a home to return to.

The organization has expressed regret and says it is still doing its best to make the dream cruise come true.
